Last Week's Event - Oakland Art Murmer
Here are a couple photos of the festivities at the recent First Friday Oakland Art Murmer.
We had the opportunity to set up a table at the event and rub elbows with some of the local residents and artists.
In addition to having a ton of fun there, we received an excellent reception for our dichroic fused glass jewelry that is also featured on forthepeoplejewelry.com

What is dichroic and fusing glass anyways?
Some people call it dicrylic glass jewelry, some call it acrylic glass jewelry, and some even call it dicroak glass jewelry, but the proper name is dichroic glass jewelry. Dichroic fused glass art jewelry is the specialty of this blog.
The raw glass used in the construction of each wearable artwork comes in small sheets from the factory. Each different design has either a very thin coating of oxidized/iridized metal or opaque color patterning on the surface.
The hand tools seen here are necessary for the proper manipulation of the raw glass. Shaping and cutting are done primarily by scoring the sheets with a diamond tipped glass cutter and then breaking along that score using pliers.
Where it all happens...
Here we have the glass studio where all of For The People's creations (on forthepeoplejewelry.com) come to life. Lots of storage and sturdy furniture pieces are integral to the glass making process.
The ceramic and steel kiln on the left gets up to 1600 degrees fahrenheit, at which point the dichroic glass actually liquifies and fuses to itself...we will talk more about each tool and material of the trade and its role in the fusing process down the road.
